The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
