The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
