Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
