The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
