(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
