The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
