The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
