He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
