And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no caring friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
