Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 in which you are now living 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
