Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
