The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
