The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
