The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 who guard their privates 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
