The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
