The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
