۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
