Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. Pay heed to me. 3 He will forgive your sins and give you a respite for an appointed time. When the time which God has appointed arrives, none will be able to postpone it. Would that you knew this!" 4 He said; 'My Lord, I have called my people by night and by day, 5 But all my calling doth but add to their repugnance; 6 And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride. 7 And lo! I have called unto them aloud, 8 "Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private, 9 And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving. 10 He will shower upon you torrents from heaven, 11 increase your wealth and sons; and grant you gardens and waterways. 12 What ails you, that you look not for majesty in God, 13 ‘Whereas it is He Who created you in different stages?’ 14 Do you not see how God has fashioned seven skies one above the other, 15 And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth, 17 ‘And He will then take you back to it, and again remove you from it.” 18 "'And God has made the earth a wide expanse for you, 19 so that you may tread its spacious paths.” 20
