Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
