A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
