The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
