The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
