I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the receding night 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
