Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
