Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
