This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 And verily, [the essence of] this [revelation] is indeed found in the ancient books of divine wisdom [as well]. 196 And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this (Admonition) to penetrate the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod). 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 But when it comes upon them suddenly, taking them unawares, 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 none of their luxuries will be able to save them from the torment? 207 And We destroyed no township but it had its warners 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 then, if they disobey thee, say, 'I am quit of that you do.' 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 And your movements among those who fall prostrate (along with you to Allah in the five compulsory congregational prayers). 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Have you not seen how they wander in every valley, 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
