And the dwellers in Al-Hijr denied (Our) messengers. 80 for We did vouchsafe them Our messages, but they obstinately turned their backs upon them 81 They hewed their dwellings out of the mountains in safety. 82 Then the Blast caught them in the morning 83 And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)! 84 We did not create the heavens and the earth, and what is between them except in truth. The Hour is sure to come, therefore, forgive them with a gracious pardon. 85 Your Lord is indeed the Creator of all, the All-Knowing. 86 We have given you the seven oft-recited verses and the great Quran. 87 Do not stretch your eyes to that We have given pairs of them to enjoy, nor sorrow for them, and lower your wing to the believers. 88 And say: "I am a distinct warner," 89 [For, thou art the bearer of a divine writ] such as We have bestowed from on high upon those who [afterwards] broke it up into parts, 90 those who had split up their Qur'an into pieces. 91 Them, by thy Lord, We shall question, every one, 92 for what they have done 93 Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists. 94 For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff,- 95 those who set up another deity alongside Allah. They shall soon come to know. 96 Well know We that thy bosom is oppressed by what they say, 97 But hymn the praise of thy Lord, and be of those who make prostration (unto Him). 98 And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the Hour that is Certain. 99

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
