The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
