The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
