The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and they turn away. 1 Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord they barely heed it and remain immersed in play, 2 their hearts being set on other concerns. The wrong-doers whisper to one another: "This person is no more than a mortal like yourselves. Will you, then, be enchanted by sorcery while you see?" 3 The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing." 4 They say: "Nay, these are confused dreams; nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign, even as the Messengers of the past were sent with signs." 5 Not one of the communities that We destroyed in bygone times would ever believe [their prophets]: will these, then, [be more willing to] believe? 6 We never sent (anyone) before you except men to whom We revealed to them. 'Ask the people of the Remembrance if you do not know' 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Then We fulfilled Our promise to them and We saved them and those with them whom We pleased, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds. 9 We have bestowed upon you a Book that mentions you. Do you not understand? 10
