The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
