The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe." 1 Only they are true believers whose hearts fill up with awe when the name of God is mentioned; and their faith is further strengthened when His messages are read out to them; and those who place their trust in their Lord, 2 Who are firm in devotion, and spend of what We have given them, 3 These are the believers in truth; they shall have from their Lord exalted grades and forgiveness and an honorable sustenance. 4 It is like when your Lord caused you to leave your home with the truth, though some of the believers disliked it. 5 Who argued with you about the matter even after it had become quite clear, as if they were being pushed into (the arms of) death as they waited. 6 And (remember) when Allah promised you (Muslims) one of the two parties (of the enemy i.e. either the army or the caravan) that it should be yours, you wished that the one not armed (the caravan) should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the truth by His Words and to cut off the roots of the disbelievers (i.e. in the battle of Badr). 7 In order that He may prove the truth and disprove falsehood, even if the criminals get annoyed. 8 When you sought aid from your Lord, so He answered you: I will assist you with a thousand of the angels following one another. 9 Allah made it but a message of hope, and an assurance to your hearts: (in any case) there is no help except from Allah: and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise. 10
