Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till the appointed time. 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
