The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
