Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
