(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
