In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
