And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. 33 We made in it gardens of date-palms and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth 34 So that they may eat of its fruit; yet it was not done by their hands. Then why do they not acknowledge thanks? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip the day out of it, thereupon they are in darkness. 37 The sun is running its course to its appointed place. That is the ordaining of the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing. 38 And the moon, We have determined it in phases till it returns like an old palmbranch. 39 The sun shall not outstrip the moon, nor shall the night outstrip the day. Each is floating in an orbit. 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We have created for them the like of it in which they board. 42 We could have drowned them if We pleased, and none would have answered their cry for help, nor would they have been saved, 43 except through Our Mercy and as enjoyment for awhile. 44 When it is said to such people: “Guard yourselves against what is ahead of you and what has preceded you that mercy be shown to you” (they pay scant heed to it). 45 And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away. 46 And when it is said to them: "Spend of that with which Allah has provided you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He (Himself) would have fed? You are only in a plain error." 47 And they say: "When will this promise (i.e. Resurrection) be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They are only waiting for a single blast that will seize them, but they will go on contending. 49 No (chance) will they then have, by will, to dispose (of their affairs), nor to return to their own people! 50
