The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
