And a sign for them is the dead land. We gave it life, and We brought forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof. 33 We made in it gardens of date-palms and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth 34 So that they may eat from its fruits, whereas they are not manufactured by their hands! So will they not be grateful? 35 Glory be to Him Who created pairs of all things, of what the earth grows, and of their kind and of what they do not know. 36 And a sign unto them is the night. We draw off the day therefrom, and lo! they are darkened. 37 And the sun runneth to its appointed term: that is the disposition of the Mighty, the Knowing. 38 And We have appointed positions for the moon till it returns like an old branch of the date palm. 39 Neither does it lie in the sun's power to overtake the moon nor can the night outstrip the day. All glide along, each in its own orbit. 40 And [it ought to be] a sign for them that We bear their offspring [over the seas] in laden ships, 41 And We have created for them of the like thereunto whereon they ride. 42 And if We list, We shall drown them, and there will be no shout for them, nor will they be saved. 43 Unless by mercy from Us, and as a comfort for a while. 44 When they are told, "guard yourselves against what is before you and what is behind you, in order that you may be shown mercy," [they turn away]. 45 And not a sign cometh unto them of the signs of their Lord, but they are ever backsliders therefrom. 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 They also say, 'When shall this promise come to pass, if you speak truly?' 48 They await just one scream, which will overcome them while they are involved in worldly disputes. 49 So they shall not be able to make a bequest, nor shall they return to their families. 50
