Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
