The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
