Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then was grudging? 34 Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth? 35 Or has he never yet been told of what was [said] in the revelations of Moses, 36 and Abraham, he who paid his debt in full? 37 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; 38 And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- 39 He will certainly see the result of his labor 40 Thereafter he shall be recompensed therefor with the fullest recompense. 41 And that to your Lord (Allah) is the End (Return of everything). 42 and that it is He who makes to laugh, and that makes to weep, 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, 45 From seed when it is emitted. 46 And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation 47 that He it is Who bestowed wealth and riches, 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 just as He thrust into perdition those cities that were overthrown 53 So that they were covered over by what they were covered over. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 He (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) is a Herald of Warning, like the former Heralds of Warning. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Are you astonished at this news, 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
