a good many of olden times, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
