Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 The people of Thamud and Ad denied the Day of Judgment. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. 5 And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; 6 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. 7 Can you see any of their survivors? 8 The Pharaoh, those who lived before him and the people of the Subverted Cities all persisted in doing evil. 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 and the earth and the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with a single stroke! 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 and the heavens will be rent asunder, 16 and the angels [will appear] at its ends, and above them, eight will bear aloft on that Day the throne of thy Sustainer's almightiness… 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 Now as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, he will exclaim: "Come you all!" Read this my record! 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 in an exalted garden 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 But as for him whose record shall be placed in his left hand, he will exclaim: "Oh, would that I had never been shown this my record, 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! 27 My wealth has not helped me a thing 28 and my authority has been destroyed' 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 Then into Hellfire drive him. 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, 33 nor did he urge the feeding of the needy. 34 That is why he has no friend today, 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 None shall eat it but the sinners. 37
