۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Are we not then to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
