The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
