The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
