By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
