Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
